: Transmen Shouldn't Be Bullies

There is no good reason for trans men to tear other trans men down for being “weak,” “pathetic,” “needy,” or any of those things. Tearing trans men down for emotions or qualities that we associate with femininity is a practice…

Okay, your point is well taken but Trans* on Trans* bullying is not “misogyny”. FtM men are not women, we’re men. That’s one of the things I hate about being Trans* is being lumped in with the lesbians. Just because I’m queer and not a gay man doesn’t automatically make me a lesbian. No offense to the lesbians, but I’m not a woman. Not at all. I’m a man who likes giving it to women. So I’m heterosexual when it comes to sex but queer when it comes to culture and identity. Does that make sense? It makes sense in my little brain, anyway, and that’s all that really matters.

Physician withholds cancer diagnosis from trans* patient (TW: transphobia)

gaywrites:

A doctor at a major New York hospital failed to tell a patient he had cancer, and the patient suspects the reason is because he’s transgender.

Jay Kallio, a 56-year-old man who transitioned six years ago, says when he underwent a medical exam at the hospital, his doctor seemed “bewildered” by his body. The doctor ordered a mammogram for Kallio but failed to tell him a lump on his breast tested positive for cancer.

He learned about the diagnosis much later, not from the doctor, but when a lab technician called to ask about it.

“I kept hitting this stone wall of non-acceptance,” Kallio told the New York Daily News. “It’s a systemic problem. It was at all levels of providers, from doctors to housekeeping to the nursing staff. People need to be aware that this discrimination will not be tolerated.”

Although the doctor later apologized, Kallio told the Daily News that the time spent to find new physicians has put his health in greater danger.

“It delayed my care past the therapeutic window for chemotherapy,” said Kallio. “You should have chemotherapy within three months of cancer therapy. Because I had to change providers and kept encountering discrimination, it delayed the care. So much of cancer care has to do with early treatment.”

Appalling. Let’s not forget that the Affordable Care Act prohibits discrimination against trans* patients - apparently not everyone’s gotten the memo.

I think that the surgeon who is performing my shoulder surgery also has a hard time with my being transgender. When I first met him, he kept staring at my  facial hair and then kept calling me “ma’am” and “little lady”. Little lady?! Seriously?!? I don’t look anything like a little lady or a ma’am for that matter, but he kept misgendering me. I’ll probably just come out to him as being FtM and tell him to stop it.

B0YFIEND: Safe Restorooms (A Long Overdue Update)

To a lot of people, going to the bathroom isn’t really something that requires a lot of deep thought. One simply feels the need to go, finds a bathroom they can use, and go. But if a person has an identity within the trans universe (transgender, transsexual, gender queer etc),…
